In 1956, a significant portion of Jiaotong University was moved to Xi’an under the directive of the State Council. Subsequently, this relocated segment was formally rebranded as Xi’an Jiaotong University in 1959, marking its establishment as a distinct entity. Then, in 2000, with approval from the State Council, Xi’an Jiaotong University underwent expansion through the merger of the former Xi’an Medical University and the former Shaanxi Institute of Finance and Economics, further enhancing its academic scope and influence.
