Southwest Medical University, located in Luzhou, Sichuan Province, is a provincial institution of higher learning with roots dating back to the establishment of South Sichuan Medical School in 1951. The university has undergone several upgrades, evolving into Luzhou Medical College in 1959 and later obtaining the right to confer bachelor’s degrees in 1978. By 1993, it became a master’s degree-granting institution.

Southwest Medical University received approval to establish a post-doctoral research station and underwent a name change to its current designation in 2015. The university attained the status of a doctoral degree-granting unit in 2021.

Recognized as a Ministry of Education (MOE) Listed University, Southwest Medical University is authorized by the Ministry of Education China to offer an English-taught MBBS program. It has been enrolling Pakistani students for MBBS since 2009. Additionally, the university is PMCA Listed and holds recognition from the National Medical Commission of India (NMC), the Medical Council of India (MCI), and the Bangladesh Medical Council (BMDC) for its English Medium MBBS program.

when i approached UM International back in 2011 i was a bit worried about my admission and living in China. I had concerns about it but God knows everything went smooth including issuance of VISA, travelling to China, provision of accomodation and Dr. Umair even used to take us for lunches and dinners until we got used to live there. He managed everything for us, for us it was like moving to an unknown place and start going to University, he himself managed all the formalities one had to face when he or she moves abroad.
